I bought this 100% linen dress at a discount store for $16 USD.Yeah, it had these weird trumpet sleeves and yeah, there was a stain like someone had dropped the dress in a snow puddle.
But let me remind you from the previous post that 1 yard of new linen is $26 USD and this is a complete garment (read 3-4 yards of linen) for $16 USD.
So, let’s get creative!
So I cut those weird sleeves off and hemmed them in a way I found interesting.Sleeve hem detailAnd I took the extra sleeve fabric and made a pocket. Because…well….pockets!!
But I have to say that I love the embellishments on this pocket and you will likely see similar details in future projects.
And after I lose 20#, I will model the garments rather than hanging them on a wall hook.
Very pretty! and linen is way more practical than it was 30 years ago.
Qs. Where is the second pocket ? And did you bleach that one or just change your photo settings?
I didn’t make a second pocket. Mostly because that pocket took about 15 hours. No bleach and photo done with a smart phone camera. Probably the only difference is the light. If one does not mind wearing un-ironed linen, it is very practical. If you need it to be starched and ironed….you are gonna have to have staff.
OMGosh, so pretty! I love the hem. I love the pocket detail. The placing of the pocket is creative and cute. I think you’re going to enjoy wearing this! Dang, that hem!!!
It is a simple technique–just a straight running stitch. By varying the placement and color of thread, you can have a lot of variety. Give it a go! I recommend using all natural fabrics (cotton, linen, wool.) I have been disappointed in the results when I use a synthetic blend.
Just a comment about successful weight loss. I lost 30# across 3 years and the primary factor was choosing granola and yogurt for breakfast – every day, no exceptions. I used to dither every morning about what to eat, usually either stuffing in some carbs, or skipping – either choice led to poor decision making for the rest of the day. That stomach full of healthy choices is what makes better choices easier the rest of the day,
Still losing about 2 oz/month and I even though I’m 2″ taller now, I weigh less than I did when I graduated from high school in 1959…
I eat the same thing for breakfast every single day: a cup of oatmeal, cooked from scratch with one tablespoon peanut butter and banana slices. I eat this because 1) I feel healthy when I do and 2) it is a pretty inexpensive balanced vegan meal. Apparently my poor choices are coming later in the day. 😜

I know! And it’s so simple! I think I’m going to make a lamp shade of white linen and that stitch. It will take awhile.

The 20# is a project for this year. I don’t think I’ll blog about it, there are so many weight loss blogs.

Congrats on the weight loss! 30# is a pretty big deal. I do think your method is the best-eating healthy, minding portions.

I would love it if you shared more about your weight loss plan on the blog. But understand if you don’t want to.
